Hi,

Does anybody know what sort of connector the Antec P182's front panel Firewire connector cable has - is it a motherboard header type, or a standard Firewire connector?

Am building a new system with a Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R which doesn't have Firewire so I'm going to try order a PCI Firewire card for it but until my case turns up I don't know what sort of internal connection is needed.

Looked all over the net for reviews with pics but can't make anything out.

Cheers!

I looked all over the web, but I just found the answer in a picture posting in this forum by wuyanxu ...

Looks like it's a standard mobo header for 1394 Firewire... just hope I can find a PCI firewire card with it on now, or else I'll have a dead port on the front of my case and forever be rooting around the back to plug my DV cam in!

Have search in Google (or any other search engine) for a

Firewire to Male Motherboard Header Connector

and have a look through the results.

It could be what you need to connect the cable in the P182B case and a Firewire PCI card.

Cheers peeps.

I actually already have a Firewire card knocking about, but it hasn't got any internal connectors. I guess I could get one of those adaptors and run it out the back of the case, but thats just plain fugly ;)

Alternatively I'll have to try get a Firewire card with an internal mobo-style 10 pin header. I've looked all over though and the only one I can find is in a certain high street component / tacky gadget shop, but it comes with it's own ugly beige front panel that would just go in the bin, and it costs a ludicrous £29.99.

The other option is to get a card with a standard internal Firewire port (they seem to be 10 a penny compared to ones with a 10 pin mobo header, which is bizarre if you ask me) and get one of those fugly adaptors again (seems like Antec do one according to those manual shots). But the expense of that makes me think I should've forked out for the Gigabyte P35 board with the bleeding firewire on it already! Doh!

Hmmm... Antecs firewire adaptor cable is not available on Antecs UK online store. But it's only $5.99 on their US one. I bet if it was in the UK store it would be £15.99 - thats usually how these things work.

I made sure I didn't have this problem by buying a motherboard with firewire onboard.
Great for transferring video from my miniDV camcorder.

I hate when you find products from the same company available in the USA and not over here.
