Hi Guys,

Ive just joined this forum as im planning on building my first gaming PC – as my aging Dell 8400 just doesn’t cut the mustard anymore with the new games. Apart from adding extra RAM and replacing the graphics card with a Radeon X800, im a total n00b when it comes to this sort of thing – so please bear with me.

Ive kind of planned on a budget of £700-800 all in – I realised that wont build the ultimate, but should be a good basis, and something i could upgrade in the future.

I’ll be gradually acquiring the parts before getting my mate to help me build it – and Ive decided to start with the case & PSU.
I like the classy look of the Antec’s, and i want something that will last me for years - im torn between the P182 (c£100 without PSU) and the P190 (£230 with 650w+550w PSU).

Questions…
-I kind of think the P190 might be overkill, and probably too pricy for my overall budget – agree?
-I heard the dual PSU of the P190 isnt a great idea
-Will the P182 comfortably fit one of the latest Gfx cards – say a 9800GTX?
-I heard it can be difficult to find a PSU that stretches to meet the motherboard on the P182 – can anyone recommend a PSU for c.£70-80 that pumps out 700w that will suit the P182?

Im sure I’ll have loads more questions, so apologies in advance!

Chris

Heya and welcome.

Get the P182. It's a fine case and will fit your 9800GTX no worries. I have a P180 and it fits the 260GTX with room to spare. Look at a Corsair PSU, starting at the 520w or 620w versions to go with it and you are all set. Corsair cables will reach everywhere you need to go.

£100 for a P182 these days :O I paid £82 for mine about 5 months ago! If your planning on using all 6 hard drive bays in the P182 you might find those graphics cards dont fit, or are very snug against the two hard drives in the upper hard drive chamber, the chamber can be completly removed giving you a hell of a lot more space, and you can still fit 4 hard drives in the lower chamber with the PSU.

Just finished my P182 build and think its great! As for GPU I've just setup 8800Ultra SLI without and problems in it

Well, the nice delivery man has just dropped it off.
Kind of dwarfs my old Dell 8400! Ooof!
