hi all

I was woundering to enable the front case eSATA port do i just conect the cable to a SATA plug on the motherboard ? as i can not find a eSATA plug on the motherboard.

sorry if its a dumb question its just that i am not to sure as i have a Asus P7P55D-E EVO and was not to sure about this and if you can what prt is best to use the last 1 or the 4ht port as i have 2 hard drives and 1 dvd writer that usse the first 3

thanks for any help

Yes, connect it to the SATA port of your choice. I'd plug it in after the last device in order of ports if possible. Probably won't make much real difference. Remember you need AHCI on in the BIOS to make use of the hotswap for esata iirc.

what is AHCI will this be enabled as standard ? if not will it effect anything in the system like my hardrives if i enable it

does the Asus P7P55D-E EVO support this

thanks

Google AHCI for a more thorough explanation of what it does. If you have an OS installed already, it's probably not worth the trouble enabling it.

Look in the BIOS for the option.

no i ahve not built the machine yet and will be installing win7.

so what you saying you need to enable it first in the bios and then install windows ? what happens if its already installed which mine is not

why is it not enabled to start with as many case all come with esata on the front

is it best to enable this from the start as i will be putting in some samsung f3 NCQ drives to

thanks

oh do i need to do anything to enable NCQ on the hardrives when installing windows 7 or will it just do it as i can remember on windows xp you had to do sotmhing to get it to install teh right drive to enable NCQ for hardrives

can anyone help me here i have read that using AHCI will enable NCQ and lets you have hot swap for external esata device.

the thing is i have a sata pioneer writer will this effect that as i have read thta this might casue problems?

the motherboard i am getting has a esata on the back of the i/o plate as well as thismis an asus pd55 i5

can anyone give me help on this

thanks

If you just enable AHCI first, NCQ should just work without doing anything else.

The DVD writer shouldn't be affected by enabling AHCI. Boot times will be a little longer - you should see a screen after POST with AHCI devices being detected.

Just enable it and install the OS, you shouldn't have any probs with Win 7.
