hi all i have a problem with the p183 case and its startign to wind me up a littile, the problem is the top fan mount.

At the top of the case, cutouts in the metal allow air to pass through. We believe the remaining metal outline of the fan hub and struts is the reason the top fan sounds so much worse when mounted compared to the rear fan. As a result, the top of the case vibrates heavily when a fan is mounted in this position. Why a complete circle wasn't cut instead is a mystery — there is absolutely no reason to leave a metal tracing of the fan structure. In addition, as the top panel of the case cannot be removed, and there is little clearance between the metal and the plastic grill above it, cutting this piece out will prove problematic. Decoupling the fan would certainly help, but this is also no easy task, as only one side of the fan is secured with screws. The other side has two metal tabs that keep the fan flush against the metal surface. This is an odd annoyance in an otherwise well evolved case.

I dont want to remove the fan as it does help air flow and i was woundering would a better fan stop this from happening at all ? or some sort of mod, I have the fans set to low but it still vibrating the top of the case i have even tried puting some heavy weight on top of it and has reduced it by 50% but you can still hear it a littile.

has anyone sorted this problem out and if so how ?

shame antec did not do a better job of the top fan as the rest of the case is top quality.

any help welcome

I have a P182 and the top fan used to resonate and drive me potty. If i placed my mobile in the middle of top panel it stopped!
I had to change to a lower rpm fan to stop it but also (if yours is like mine it has two screw holes and two metal tabs) i bent the tabs a little to tighten the grip on the fan. That also seemed to help.
Bad design flaw imo.

As said, set the fan speed to low and see what happens.

I first replaced the two mounting screws with two Akasa siliconized rubber fan pins and then replaced the fan with a Noctua NF-S12B FLX exhaust fan running on fan control from the motherboard.

what about 2 self adhesive rubber washers where the plastic of the fan touches the metal ?
Or use rubber fan mounts but so the short end or small bit of rubber is sticking through the 2 fan holes that touch the metal

i have the fan set to low, i have read that its best to take the fan out and block the hole and then place the fan at the front of the case as an intake has anyone tried this ?

or has anyone replaced the fan with a better one that has less vibration ?

cheers

Antec 900 is a bitch for this, even with fans on low its like starting up a mid engine jet

But the entire point of the 900 is cooling, noise kind of comes with the territory... the 183 is an all rounder or even noise reduction based case, so this is more of an irriration.
