Antec Skeleton

I'll hold my hands up and say that I didn't realise they weren't accurate. Apologies. However I'm still holding onto the fact that the case was designed to be open so you can't compare it to an enclosed case with the side taken off :)

It's only design is to be a gimmick. I doubt sticking a big fan above and 'enclosure' really took a lot of R&D. I bet the design crew had a big laugh when they threw it together while thinking how many people would be sucked into buying one.

No you're right. A case with the side off probably has better cooling, so shouldn't be used as an example.

1. It isn't case or anykind eclosure because of total failure to provide any kind physical and EMI protection.
2. As open test bench it's failure because of being cramped.
3. Darn expensive for what it isn't and won't never be.

Look into heatsinks... that's where dust goes to hide.

Use these:

http://downloads.guru3d.com/IntelBurnTest-v2.3-download-2047.html (or OCCT or Linx)
And remember to be ready for seeing temps skyrocket.

Well here's coretemp:

Low = at idle
High = under load (COD5)

so according to that above it runs cool and it should do, because it's got a massive fan blasting down over the entire MOBO....you therefore dont need a huge CPU cooler, or a cooler for the RAM/Nothbridge etc.....i'd say that this was fairly obvious :cool:..........especially on a cold day! but the skeleton doesn't have great ventilation BELOW THE MOBO !

as for dust, no you wont get much because the fan will blast it away...but you'll still get a fine film of it.....but you'll get this with a normal pc too.

the Skeleton fails because it's too small, because all the cabling is mentioned as a problem too.....which also decreases ventilation below, there is no excuse for this lack of space, this is a design **** up.

i'm surprised the Skeleton is still being sold as is, and not replaced by a ``Revision B update``..........as before but increased in volume by 25%... then it would sell far more

i actually mentioned this to them via email.... i got no reply

That doesn't mean anything unless compared to exactly same CPU with same heatsink. Actually AMD even doesn't have sensors in hot spots of cores which would give accurate results comparable to Intels.
http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/howitworks.html#AMD
Instead of core temperature it's exactly that generic CPU temp or Tcase (temperature of package) so actual core temps are lot higher. Probably only AMD knows how much that's on various models... and they surely don't want that data public because that would be bad publicity for their claimed to be cool CPUs.
(have seen 15C mentioned for Intels as difference between Tjunction and Tcase)

you therefore dont need a huge CPU cooler
Big surface area is always needed for good cooling.
Extra airflow from big fan didn't help CPU temperature any with stock HSF so there's your "miracle effect".

(with normal exhausting GPU HSF it wouldn't even make much difference there)

Had an skeleton for about a year now and just in the process of taking it apart to build an i7 rig into it.

To answer the dust question once and for all, IT IS NOT A PROBLEM. sorry to go all capital on you guys, but fed up of hearing it from peeps who don't have one.

re air flow, again, a diferent concept to conventional cases. A case needs airflow as it it has to get the hot air out of thecase to the room. the skeleton doesn't have this restriction. I have been running mine previously with a Q6600 clocked at 3.6 for a year with what would normally be thought of as an incapable fan zalman CNPS 9500 LED and the temps have barely breached 45 degrees at full tat.

To answer the original question of this thread, the zalman fan fits fine with no modificatins to the case, however any of the conventional square type coolers will require a bit of cutting of the enclosures large fan cowling (but hey who's averse to a bit of dremmeling???)

I've opted for the titan fenrir to cool my i7, and will be getting out the dremmel tomorrow morning to re mod the cowling.

Just as extra info, any fan bigger than 160mm in height will not fit under the fan assembly inside the cowling, even if you chop the cowling.

Well regardless of the arguments I'm still happy with my skeleton. I don't have any heat issues, dust issues, and neither our kids or cat have inserted any limbs inside it. The only reason I can see for changing the case is if I have to go back to having one under the desk for space reasons or if I just get bored of it.

Does anyone know if antec are going to pursue this style of case in the future? As i would be tempted if it was slightly bigger.
