Antec spot cool to get cpu temps down

I was wondering if any one had tried bringing cpu temps down by adding a fan behind the motherboard/left side of case with a cpu cut out blowing on the rear of the motherboard over the area where the cpu is, if you get what I mean...where a back plate would normally be.

I don't know if it would help with temps or it would be a pointless exercise but I was thinking of getting an Antec spot cool and giving it a go, obviously you'd have to leave off the side panel but if it would help with temps then why not, or am I talking a load of bull?

I'd love a H100i but my case wont accommodate it, currently using an Antec Kuhler 920 on a 4770K @4.6GHz with reasonable temps at load around 76c, don't really want to change the cooler as this one is new. Be interested to see what results others have got using a fan at the rear.

If full load temps under p95 etc, those temps are very impressive on what is a pretty hot running cpu.

I use OCCT but don't stress with AVX capable linpack ticked, I did try it and temps were hitting the high 80's with the 4.6 overclock, played hours of BF3 Crysis 3 with temps only in high 50's low 60's and its rock solid.

Yep, delidding would help. Very tempted to scalp mine as the temps are too high, 94c under p95 in a matter of seconds on one core.

Ill try a remount/paste of the chip and cooler first. But it looks like delidding might be the best way forward. Really annoying how intel deliberately gimped both hw and ib with there cheapo paste.
