Looking to build a PC for the spare room out of some old bits and bobs I've got lying around and need a cheap and cheerful but decent case.

LANBOY and ZEN cought my eye. Your opinons please!

Hi MT01XP,

I'd personally go super lanboy as they seem real good value for money and are supposed to cool well!

However, as it's a cheap and cheerful system i'd go with what you like the look of most!

For instance, although i'd recomment the lanboy for a modern system I think the Zen's a better looking case (in an ipod kind of way).

So it's up to you! I think you'd be perfectly happy with either! :)

from reading the many threads in here both cool well - super lanboy is slightly better (but small for an atx case), zen looks better (imo) both excerlent value for money budget cases.

I've got a Zen and its a really nice case, but i think the lanboy just pips it.

(i bought the zen just before the lanboys became available again  )

How's the Lanboy for noise? I know that's mainly down to components but still, some are better than others in terms of insulation and, more importantly, irritating rattles and vibrations.

Lanboy is an excellent case, total bargain at OCUK and I hope they dont run out as I want some more :)
The fans supplied are quiet but its by no means a silent case, you tend to hear the noise of the air flow above anything else, but no vibrations, no rattles, cool, no sharp edges inside, and pretty good looking as the Aluminum seems to be laquered which is nice and the side window looks neat (the front looks a little bit tacky but then again if you rip the door and fan cover off it looks boring), the case is also very light weight, ideal for moving into different rooms if needed.

Contrary to reviews I didnt find it cramped at all, it is a very neat and tidy case if you wire up the HD drives from the back and use a modular power supply, LOL at the reviewer at a well known tech website who wired them from the front and said it looks messy.
Only one problem I had was the small shelf/bracket holding the power supply up came in contact with the fan grill on my PSU, so had to nibble part of the shelf away.

I'm happy with my lanboy, just wish modular PSUs weren't so pricey cause the wires are a bit of a mess in mine.
It's fairly quiet with an AC7Pro and it comes with rubber fittings on the fan etc.
Only thing is this dvd drive makes some noises when it spins up.. probably easy to resolve tho.
Overall it's light, cool, and cosy but not so small that it gives you any trouble. I like the removable drive trays. have the cables on the window side just because I'm lazy..
