Hi guys,

I hace a 140mm antec tricool, one that comes standard with my case, would like to make it so that it can run lower than its lowest setting, however it just runs off to a molex, black and red wire. There is a separate switch that does high med and low, but low just isnt low enough, it vibrates the case lid and I like things quiet.

If I took a spare male 3 pin fan connector, snipped them both and joined up the black and red wires with electrical tape, would it work ok?

I could then adjust the power from my mother board.

Or is there anther way for me to shave another 20% or so off the fans rpm?

Thanks.

Had a look, gonna read some more and see how I go.

EDIT; Good thing I did, 5v seems to be a theoretical goer, but the fan just slows down too much. 7v is dodgy. 12v is where I m at right now. Probably going to put a resistor off another of my fans onto the wire.

Well i have got a resistor off a Zalman fan cable I had spare. It takes the voltage down to 7v with the zalman fan- its gonna be pretty similar with the tricool.

Plugged it in, it span up, let it run on each of the speeds the switch allows, it is far more acceptable, the vibration has all but stopped and the highest speed still puts out a good amount of air.

I am no electronics expert, so posting a pic of what I have done, will be wrapping it up well with electrical tape and making sure it is all neat. If anyone who knows a thing or two could have a look and let me know if I am gonna blow myself up or anything please, do tell!
