Hi

I am in the process of speccing a Conroe system and happened to notice the Titan 550 with the above PSU.

However, I have read reviews that suggest this PSU is fairly poor, particularly at high load.

Can someone advise me if this is the case? If so what 500/600W PSU and case am I better off buying (up to £200 budget)?

Thanks

I'd look at Lian Li's range of cases, as well as the PSUs from tagan and enermax. There are other good PSU makers out there, but those are the brands I have had good experience with.

And I would personally recommend the Lian Li PC-7+ and the tagan 530W modular.

I've built about half a dozen systems with Antec 550 TruePower PSU's now, and I honestly can't report any problems. And that's with big CPU's like Conroe and 7950GX2/Aegia Physx cards under heavy load and test conditions etc. etc.

For my money Antec are one of the top three PSU manuafacturers out there, the others being SeaSonic and Enermax. Antec know how to build a quality PSU. They place a great emphasis on quietness too, and they have struck a great compromise with the TruePower and SmartPower ranges.

I don't work for Antec by the way, lol.

The case is nothing that special, as almost all the money is on the PSU.

Its the same as buying a £80 PSU and a £30 case, but for a discounted price.
