Hi guys

eTeknix have reviewed our VPF550 80 Plus Bronze PSU, seems they were rather impressed with the performance and stability of it :)

http://www.eteknix.com/antec-strictly-power-vpf550-power-supply-review/

This may be an 80 Plus Bronze rated unit, but it’s mostly within the Silver rating on our tests, only missing out at 50% load by a very small margin. This is great, as you’re mostly getting better than advertised efficiency!

OK, I’m pretty stumped here, these results are very good, not just for a PSU, but for any PSU.

Conclusion

When I first saw this power supply, there was a little part of me that wanted to point and laugh. Let’s be honest, it looks a bit rubbish and while I admit that is not out of the ordinary for a budget power supply, it is hard to be particularly excited by products in this price range. Of course, the jokes on me, because after we plugged this unit into our load tester, it’s Antec who are doing the laughing.

The problem for me (especially on OCUK) is the price because a extra £7 get's you a gold rated Truepower Classic 550w or a Superflower Golden Green HX. The budget to low mid range is getting very competitive these days and OCUK's price of £52.99 for this psu doesn't make it particularly budget.

I can see the Antec PSU available elsewhere in the uk for under £47.

I would not have gone for this Antec PSU before now, but looking at the pricing and Eteknix review there then the Antec looks a bloody grand choice to me.

a 13 quid saving would take over a year to recoup back against using a gold rated psu vs a bronze with typical pc usage (and this seems to be more like a silver rated unit looking at the review so maybe longer still)

I think this VPF power looks very good now for entry level builds with limited budgets for sure.
