ok just got back into gaming since buying a mid range card, and i see in games like crysis you have this anti-aliasing settings and vsync, can anyone sum up how these are best used for my spec, i fiddled a bit but could not see much of a change

Anti aliasing is the kiss of death in Crysis, presumably all that flamin' foliage is too much to effectively run the filter on.

Fortunately, that very fact reduces the need for anti aliasing as there's not a lot of straight lines in the game where "jaggies" stick out.

Vsync's a tricky on Crysis. On any game that does not consistantly run at a framerate higher than the refresh rate, Vsync WILL cause jerking, and a slight reduction in overall framerate (as the card must wait for the next refresh to display a frame). Without tripple buffering, it can also cause an even lower framerate, and with tripple buffering, while that effect is negated, you can possibly pick up a bit of input lag (there may be two frames in the buffer that need to be displayed before one can be shown which reflaects your last input), setting the pre-render to 1 frame can stop this, but also sends you back towards the FPS reducing phenomenon.

In most other games, with that card, you should be able to get AA-happy and get some really nice IQ, just not Crysis....it's a nightmare :D
