anti flicker?

Hi Truebrit - it comes under a lot of names, anti-flicker, flicker free etc etc, the idea behind it is that the flickering of the screen is reduced and this in turn reduces eye strain

tied in with a blue light filter and some other bits they are all there to reduce eye strain from prolonged use - eye care is an important part of the monitor world

Yup, as Daniel says above - flicker free is a legit thing. Some manufacturers use a flickering backlight as a dimming mechanism in cheap models. Some people (myself included) get rotten headaches/eyestrain from this, and it gets worse as you dim the screen more to try to alleviate the discomfort :/

On the other hand, some screens seem to offer a strobe-ing backlight, synced with the framerate to reduce motion blur... which I guess must work, but I would never want one. Personally I insist on "flicker free" or "PWM free" models.

(On the other hand, if you have neither eyestrain nor headaches from PC use, don't worry about it too much. It can be a natural part of your next purchase, but I wouldn't rush out to swap your screen if it isn't causing you any problems.)
