It a stereo system in a room.ans apart from the speakers and racking there is nothing else in the room, so it sounds a bit echoey. Floors are carpeted.

Any recommendations for sound panels that can be put on the side and back walls to deaden the room a bit?

Google. Loads of companies making them. Go with what is aesthetically allowable. Can even get them printed depending on type of panel.

You'll also want panels behind the speakers, not just sides and back of room. Ceiling as well if lighting allows.

A good mic and software can help kill reflections with correct speaker placement and identify what reflections you are getting.

Lots of companies make them, but they're not all the same performance. In fact, some panels are all but useless at anything other than just the treble-end of the audio spectrum.

A couple of other FMs have gone in to acoustic treatments in depth. They documented their results. That would be a good place to start. Also, have a look at GiK sound panels. They're one of the more reputable brands.

In addition to the already mentioned dedicated panels by groups like GIK, carpeting, curtains and similar also help.
