My folks keep complaining about all the spam they are getting and I'm looking into some software to try and block some. Their ISP Pipex have been a bit helpful but I'm asking for some recommendations for software, free or paid for, which can fight spam coming into their Thunderbird mailbox.

Any ideas? Thanks

What email provider is their email addy with? Just thinking a Gmail one is pretty decent for spam when you run it through Thunderbird. I only ever see the spam that Gmail has detected when I login through the website.

They're with Pipex and have they're email from them.
I've considered recommending the Gmail system but they've had their address for years and don't want to change unless they have to. I.e. when leaving those losers Pipex.

I'm gonna install Mailwasher and see if it helps at all. 7 million users they claim.

Could you not get their Pipex email to be redirected to their Gmail one? So someone emails them on their Pipex account but it gets redirected to their Gmail one. Might help the spam situation then if the email goes through Gmail's filters and they get to keep their Pipex addy.

cloudmark desktop. i can't believe nobody else recommended it. you will still download the mails but they will transferred straight to a spam folder (or deleted mails if you prefer).

or you could tell them to buy their own domain (will cost about 6 pound for a co.uk, and buy some webspace with a cpanel enabled server (not expensive), and activate spam assassin.
