I am looking at alternatives to the free Ad-aware & Spybot S&D. The reason being that I believe that some anti-spyware software 'ignores' certain malware threats where a software developer has shown that the user has accepted terms and conditions and perhaps has threatened legal action. This may apply even where the acceptance is 'uninformed'.

I understand that this may be the case for example with some sound card driver software (e.g. Creative Labs) and some 'player' software (e.g. Real Audio).

I have stumbled across ewido (www.ewido.net/en) & Trohan Hunter 4.6 (www.misec.net) and am having a look at the 'evaluation' versions. Two questions:
1. Does anyone have any experience of these products?
2. Does anyone know what malware (if any) is ignored by the various anti-spyware products?

Thanks for any feedback

Ewido is absolute top class and is extremely effective at getting the nasties. I have used it on and off for years and it always stops or removes every piece of malware thrown at it, from tracking cookies all the way up to trojans.

I have no experience of Trojan Hunter but I suggest that you also check out A-squared.

I am surprised by that review but given the magazine it is from I am not surprised. What they should have said is Ewido didn't pay us as much money as the others so it isn't as good. ;)

That said Spysweeper is also top notch and you won't go far wrong with that.

DO a search on the Wilders forum and you will find lots of discussions about antimalware.

PC Magazine reviewed Ewido and two others. Might be worth a look...

Thanks for that, perhaps I'll keep away from ewido until version 5.

Tut, tut, how cynical. Still, as you say, Spysweeper seems to be well regarded - I'll have a look at that.

Thanks.

I use those two and spyware blaster. The laptop uses an all-in-one firewall/antispyware/viruscheck ect, from blueyonder which I believe is a clone of microsoft's anti-spyware.

Never heard of Ewido though.

Ewido pwns.
AJUK recommended it to me ages ago and i have used it ever since. Along with S&D, Ad-Aware SE. I also run xp anti spy.
Ewidos speed impresses me and it always finds something even after the other two.
