I was given a electrostatic discharge wrist strap by somebody who doesn't want it, so I thought I might as well use it.

I was told that if I attach the crocodile clip to a non-painted part of my case, such as the fan grills, then we should both have the same electrical potential, and therefore prevent electrostatic discharge.

In terms of handling components outside of the case, I'm guessing all I can do here is to discharge myself on something like a radiator beforehand, so that I don't discharge any electricity onto the components? I looked at previous posts and this is what it seems to suggest?

I don't see any questions?
Everything Australians say are questions?
Their voice always goes up at the end of the sentence?
Yes, you should be fine touching a radiator?
Anti-wrist straps are great?
Make me feel "connected" to the PC?

;)

I tend to touch an unpainted part of the computer whilst it's still plugged in (but switched off) then disconnect the power, has worked so far for me.

Yep conect the clip to the pc and leave it plugged it (but turned off) that way your constantly earthed :)
