Hello People, I need some advice, Basicly i have a older laptop that i have given to my parents, its a samsung 1.7 ghz, 512 ram, i was wondering what is the best anti virus to use for this, it needs to be light on resources. I use Nod32 for my PC and Laptop which is fine for me, but all they do is browse the net now and again.

I tried the free Avast but the User interface was awfull,

Try MS's new Windows Essential security. I just installed it on a new install and it looks pretty simple so even parents should be able to use it :)

You can get various skins for Avast. I find the Vista style skin is clearest (even on XP machines). It's very noob friendly. Avast is very light on resources, but personally I turn off the update sound as it makes most people jump LOL

That or +1 for Avira free edition with safe start enabled and maximum heuristics.

I use NOD32 for all my Windows stuff, and had heard it's pretty lightweight on resources too so maybe it would be ok for that laptop?

Also it might be worth thinking about giving it some more RAM? It really would make a difference!
I know older SD/DDR SO-DIMM RAM is more expensive than modern stuff but I just got 2x 2GB DDR2 SO-DIMM for £60 and I can tell the difference between that and 2x 1GB, so bumping the 512MB up-to 1GB or 2GB would massively help it :).
