Anti-virus software: After decent one

Thanks guys, im gonna try avast! Seeing as its free and all. Im pretty sensible about where I visit and what I download so it should serve me well.

I'm abit confused as to why people are saying NOD32 is the daddy when infact its the mummy and Kaspersky is the Daddy.

Anyway, one of those is a great asset.

As a free AV, I'd go for avast as I found it uses less system resources than AVG and AVG has become rather slack in its detection.

I use Avast. I used to use AVG and it's great, but it starting giving a lot of false warnings with a lot of... things. :p

would it be out of order to ask for a poll on who uses what?

I would like to know as i want to change my current AV.

Nod32 use to be my choice but then noticed Avir and while that was good the free one had too many popups that did my head in, stuck on AVG freebie one and ran full scan and found another 50 odd trojans...

Pcs feels that bit cleaner/faster... so I do tend to wonder if Nod32 or even Avir were doing there job right ;)

Regardless every AV software will detect/show different results each time.

I have NOD32. But it doesn't appear to be very effective. The best AV I tried was, BitDefender V10. But, they've now ruiend it, with their new version, 2008. :(

I very much doubt that AVG found 50 trojans that NOD32 missed since it has far better detection rates than AVG. What AVG probably did was list cookies and MRU lists (recent files lists) as something more dramatic.

Yeah a lot were cookies, but there were at least 20 trojans....

Either way I definatly question Nod32s scanning/detecting ability sometimes feels like its missing a lot of them.

Kaspersky and Antir/AVG seem to capture more and delete more threats.

For now ill stick to AVG+Superantispyware combo :)

For the people using AVAST Home, which bits do you using install/what settings do you use?

Do you use this VRDB thingy?

Just download it & fire it up, Let it update, JD & No to VRDB I have mine Disabled.
I must have used Avast for nigh on 2 years now, Superb prog which I have Never had a problem with, I manually update though.
I game hard & thrash myself stupid over multiple porn tabs/vids frequently. I surf wherever i like & frequent many dodgey sites.
I use Avast, Ad Aware & S&D & have Never been troubled by any Spyware/Trojans that haven't been picked up by Avast & dealt with. Trust me I would notice as well as I run a stripped out system & play FPS religously. Anything that happens on my system is noticed Immedietly.
I think if anybody would be effected by a Virus/Trojan it would be me because of the amount I Surf/Spam/Game, Anything that comes my way is dealt with by Avast or Ad Aware & I run S&D just to make sure.

I Highly recommend Avast & do not understand those that pay for an AV when Avast is as good as it is & as light as it is.
