Anti-virus special offers?

Got the Kaspersky disc but everytime I go to instal it it tells me I have conflicting software on my PC.

That would be AVG 8, which I previously uninstalled and rebooted.

Any ideas?

AVG leaves crud in the registry that makes kapsersky think its still installed. Try running a registry cleaning program that can remove stuff like this, regcleaner has an option to allow you to remove selected old programes by name.

Just as a side note - try Advanced System Care. It has a reg cleaner, spyware removal, temp files removal. A whole host of useful scans all in one sweep. It's also free! We've been using it at work for some time now and its fantastic program. As above - give it a cleanup!

Yes it is telling me it is AVG 8.

I got round it by looking at their online support. Bit of a chicken and egg, don't go online without protection, but youhave to to ge the damn thign to work!

There is an AVG8 removal tool there, but it doesn't work.

There is also a slightly more complex solution which involves running a CMD window and changing a switch in 'DOS'.

Just one other thing. Windows is now sayingf I don't have a firewall? I access the internet via a router which has a firewall. Shold I activate the Windows firewall or tell it to get lost?

Well, I'm not keen on the interface of Kaspersky. It detects things but then is a quite techno-sketchy about what to do about it. it doesn't see to resolve things, it just gives you a link to a website which might, or not, be able to point you to a solution.

No firewall, no indication it is checking emails and a generally user unfriendly interface.

I'm probably going to uninstal it and put AVG 8 back on.

Yeah, but then I've seen reviews showing AVG to be really good too - 95% to Kaspersky's 97% detection rate.

So, I'm thinking stick with what you know.

Is the Firewall thing a biggy (there is one on the router)

avg is a steaming pos

antivir / avast are good free ones

kaspersky and nod32 are the best pay ones, i'd get nod32 myself (just used to using it), but ocuk have an awesome price for kaspersky

wouldn't be surprised if avg detected itself as a virus

Ive found a canadian seller on ebay selling one years nod32 subscriptions for £15,he sends you the username and password would we have any probs using this being in the uk?
