the avg free i had b4 doesnt work with 64 bit windows :(

I've been through a few firewalls and i've found the Windows one to be at least one of, if not, the best one.

It sits there, discreetly, and does it's job, with minimal user interaction. Yes, it's not great if you're more of a "power user" but i'd say it does more than a fine job for most.

Another vote for NOD32 and Windows firewall.

I tried Avast, but didn't like the interface, so I broke out the wallet and got a 5-machine, 3-year NOD32 license. How's that for commitment? :D

(I came from Symantec land - which cost 50% more and got in the way 50% more too).

well you have certainly given nod the nod then! :p

avast and windows firewall here! .....seems good enough for now!

Kapersky is running a free beta for its internet security suite (firewall, anti-virus, spyware) that is valid for 2 months. I am trialling it at the moment. Currently I am dual booting Vista with XP. So I don't mind running Beta software. I figure that I will be reinstalling my Vista anyway in a couple of months due to all the fiddling and playing around with it.

It certainly doesn't consume much memory at all and I haven't noticed much slowdown in the OS. However in saying that, the GUI is far more responsive than XP ever was, probably because its using my 7600gt to draw the screen display instead of software.
