Hi,

I currently have ESET Smart Security 5 and have been happy with it and not had any problems, its due to expire at the end of the month. I was just wondering what Anti Virus software people would recommend on here either paid or free?

Thanks

If I was to pay it would be Kaspersky, but there really is no need to spend money when Microsoft Security Essentials is just so good.

I used Eset nod32 for a few years but like you when my subscription come to an end i wanted to look at other products. Lucky for me MS Security essentials had just come out and it's doing it's job nicely.

I normally have NOD32 on my main PC and Kaspersky on the other PC's, but when subs where up again, I trialled MSE on the other PC's, but it was instantly noticeably slowing down the laptops,

After checking various AV test places, I found F-Secure, it's cheap for 3 PC's Anti-Virus for a year if bought directly from them (£20), and this years version seemed to perform well in detection rates and resource usage, and I can testify that it's a step up from Kaspersky, and miles better then MSE for me.

I've even been running it on my main PC, I expected it to underperform against NOD32, but actually it's been really transparent, I've not noticed any performance decrease and I actually think F-Secure has a better detection rate, so I will stick with it for this year, and re-asess next year.

I've just checked the AV test sites again, and it's still performing well, almost top detection rates, and still very good on resource usage etc..

I would recommend kaspersky internet security. I buy a 3 license copy for around 13 pounds.

Microsoft essentials - in my opinion, its a useless piece of software.

I used NOD32 once, some how i got this virus that ate it. But i have family that swear by it.

norton never ever. i advise freinds and family to uninstall the software. it comes bundled with new laptops and some pc's.

Panda never used it.

What is the reason you guys don't like MSE?

I find it's very good at staying out of sight, and it does a good job at keeping viruses away. For me personally, it's faultless.

MSE is really good, quite often updated and seems faultless so far, i have it installed on my pc and the mrs's 5 year old laptop which it doesnt slow down....
