Being new to ATi after a while with nvidia which would be the best AA option to use on games, im confused about all this "box" and "edge detect"or what ever

I generally use 4xAA and 16xAF ingames

which one of these new fangled AA settings should i be using then ? :)

Box filter is standard AA, edge detect effectively tripples the AA being applied, as the name suggests, rather than applying AA to the whole scene, it attempts to intelligently detect the edges of textured surfaces/polygons and only apply AA to those areas.

With the 3800s, Edge Detect was apparently broken as there seemed to be a huge performance hit with them, but ATi say they've sorted this issue out with their latest drives, so give it a try and see what you get.

The other two options are a waste of time, all they seem to do is blur the whole screen to smooth out jaggered edges, keep away in my opinion. :)

Edge detect is apparently broken on DX10 and ATI have yet to fix it. But DX9 titles in Vista with Edge Detect do look good.
