... do you love or hate the time when you've just spent 5hrs piecing together a total brand new system and are ready to turn it on?

I've just spent from 6pm-12 midnight last night carefully constructing my new system, routing cables correctly, double checking all connections, adding additional chassis fans etc and I knew that if I turned it on I wouldn't have been able to do my 8am shift tonight...

...If it worked, i'd have dropped Win7 onto it and started installing everything.
... If it didn't work, i'd be gutted and would spend hours diagnosing the problem and double checking.

So, Love/Hate your total builds?

love everyone of my builds and they all worked straight away with no problems, really wanna do more but no one wants a build done at minute.

I prefer to power it on with bare minimum connected as a bit of a confidence test so I know its ok to carry on with the build.

Love them, and I must turn them on otherwise I can't sleep at all. I NEED TO SEE IT POST :D

The first switch-on is a nerve-racking moment. I usually manage to nearly give myself a heart attack by doing something silly like not switching the plug on at the wall. When all goes well it's a huge relief; when it doesn't, which thankfully happens a lot less often now that I know what I'm doing, it can be very stressful.

Build it outside the case 1st, bare minimum of components, if it boots ok then add components and stress it for 2-3 days before putting in the case. that's my usual approach :) But that 1st switch on always gets the butterflies going in my belly.

Carter is in love with a computer! haha! :D

Nah, I know what you mean mate, same here!

I had no gfx card when I built mine and I still switched it on, only for the cpu and case fans to flicker and die....then whirr into life. I swear I nearly died in that split second. Then when I got the gfx card spent ages trying to get a display up only to find it wasn't seated properly. I was very tired at work the next day :P

ive not had one fail on me yet either, but it is nerve racking stuff, when it comes to pressing the power button! haha

On my last build (in sig) upon switching it on for the first time i was met with a blank screen, turned out i had the ram in the wrong slots, felt a bit dumb but also relieved that it was something simple, quick swap around of the ram and i was up and running.
