Ive recently upgraded to vista ultimate and ive just tried the source stress test i turned all AA/AF off and got 199 fps, graphics card is a 7900 gto stock.
Now ive just changed the settings to 2x AA / 4 AF and the score has dropped to a pathetic 86 fps.Resolution is 1440x900 btw, this is far worse than the score i got on xp is this just the vista drivers basically not doing well with AA enabled or the card?

You never tried this in XP?

Its all over the internet atm, Windows Vista aint exatly... the best for gaming at the moment :P, I found that allot of games work well, but then there is other games that are awfull compared to when running in XP, If your going to be gaming allot, the best thing would be to go back to XP and wait for the SP1 to come out for Vista, at the moment its really bad for gaming and it has not been out for long and some drivers for certain hardware are still in the beta stages.

But what is the source test? for what game exatly? those results may be ok for your card.

There is a video stress test you can do if you have the game counter strike source,on xp i was able to enable AA etc and enjoy the game but now it's terrible with it enabled, without it plays just as good as on xp but a lot of jaggies:)

hardly unplayable though?

ignore the benchmarks and comparisons to xp. if it's playable, then it's good enough. i agree some games are woeful on vista but in my (limited) experience, source games are fine. :)
