Hi,
Grandmad has a pc and today asked me why something called Norton pooped up each time she turns it on.

Turns out her Norton expired in 2006!

I am after a new antivirus for her for internet use. Do I want an antivirus or internet security though?
Will OEM 1 user be ok? I am aware of the limitations of OEM windows so I am assuming that is similar with OEM software in general.

Thanks:)

The AV questions thread is this way. ;) That aside, if Granny has such little computer knowledge that she didn't recognise Norton's subscription expiration notice, you may find immense benefit in the following:

1) Install Linux Mint 8
2) Activate SSH server
3) Enable remote desktop with a password of your choosing
4) Place a Firefox icon clearly on the desktop

That way Gran still gets to use 'teh internetz' and you are only ever a five second VNCViewer session away from fixing the PC, without having to drive over there every time she gets a popup. Not only that but you're spyware, adware, virus and general malware free without even trying. :D

The pc only has a P4, 512mb ram and xp.

Took her years to use XP so don't want to change the OS as all I will get is constant nagging of how to use it.

WIll MS Security Essentials work on XP?
I thought AVG wasn't free?

MS Security Essentials will work fine on XP. There is a free AVG version but I would always use MS' offering over AVG.

AVG is good but on a old machine may make it run slower because I find it can be very resource hungry.

I would opt for Avira or Avast, both very good anti-virus programs.
