hello right i'm by no means and expert (far from it :() and i might be jumping the gun but if it's like you're bing "redirected" it could be spyware or something if you can access other sites no problem.

do you have antivirus/anitspyware on the computer? if so you might want to run a scan.

Hi, I have a 30 day trial, smart security suite from ESET and was hoping this was enough until I bought a full version. I have run the antivirus and it finds nothing.
Have you any ideas how to disable the redirecting so I can load the full version and get secure

Cheers

Hmm I'm not exactly familiar with ESET so I'm not 100% sure (soz) but it might be worth resetting all your browser defaults and killing any addons that you don't recognise in your browser. This can be done in most browsers I believe. What browser are you using at the moment?

Oooh that just gave me a thought what about downloading an alternative browser. If it's spyware or something then the sites would be blocked in any browser but if you can access the sites then it's a browser problem not spyware.

ESET is only anti virus I think..spyware maybe the casue of this...hmm just a throught, try booting in safe mode with networking than see if you cna get anyware with you WB oh yeah what do you use IE? I wouldn't use that, way to many security loops recently.

Hi there.

Open the file "c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" with a text editor like notepad. If the file has lots of entries like;

127.0.0.1 www.mcafee.com

Then www.mcafee.com is being redirected to the IP address 127.0.0.1 which could be why the sites aren't loading.

Tried disabling add ons in my WB one at a time to see which if any causing probs, no luck.

Then tried going into windows\sys32\drivers\etc\ found a file 'IM hosts SAM'
could this be the file that is redirecting me?

I think the host sam is according to a google a samp of what the hosts file should look like.

It's possible you can't see the hosts file as you have hide system files turned on.

If it's xp your using you can alter that with

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.

Have you tried using a different web browser at least you can rule out if it's a browser issue then.

Is the 30 day trial still active or has it passed 30 days?

Tried different web browser and the trial still has 20 + days to run.

All workked perfectly after initial install. Problem started today. I can still visit any website except for security sites, Eset, Norton McAfee etc. every time I press esc to view thier page I get windows explorer cannot display this page.

It sounds like you have the W32/Conficker.worm It blocks access to security related web sites.

How can I get rid of it? cos I can't register my new full version of ESET without access to their site. It's driving me mad

Looks like a virus. Try googling it should be way to resolve it in there. Otherwise do a format and reinstall. Had to do this with MSBlaster back when.

I have tried to get on microsoft site and no luck, it looks like it may be the
w32/conficker.worm as I found some info on another site about it. like suggested earlier by F2kSel. Can anyone download an exe file to kill it as I can't get on any security site
