im being invaded by ants
how can i trace where they are coming into the house?
any tips to kill em off permanant as its the same every year

Pour bleach / boiling water down cracks in your garden. That helped at home once.
Ants always go back to their nest via smell etc, so if possible try and follow one.

problem i have here is we cant trace to the nest as we have laminate flooring and they dissapear under it at seemingly random points
cant see any areas in the garden yet probably due to the cold

we tried last year some oof those ant trap type things but with no succes at all we had 2 or 3 scattered around various points thru downstairs

Get an ant poison trap, they take it back to the nest and they all die, no respawns. Get them in the supermarket next to the fly spray and firelighters.

this is what we tried with little if any succes
Get loads, dot them about everywhere.

Also, spend some time watching the little buggers. See which way they go, where they come from and go to, they do follow scent trails.

My dad is the crazy ant man, about 15 times during the summer he rips up the concrete tiles in his patio after the ants. He kills them with a weed scorcher, flamethrower thing. And he attacks ants when he's walking to the pub of a night. :D

Yeah, my brother always said the best method was petrol + fire. He also did this with a wasps nest once

I did this with my GF's dad last year.

Nest was behind the WOODEN door of a stone outbuilding.

God knows how the door didn't catch fire, muchos fun though :D

yeah, if a wasps nest is in a safe place to do it its a good solution. Be prepared to run though :)

But how fast can you run?
Once at work, two of was asked to clear a particular place under the tree in the garden, while we set about doing it, i noticed i hit something on the ground and the next thing i remeber was stings all over my head. I ran and ran but the sting carried on even when i entered the room the followed me. it was later we realised we had disturbed the net.
Moral of the story, dont try to out run them...cuz you cant! :p

My bro noticed the nest under a paving slab in the garden. He didn't disturb it though. Went to get petrol and a lighter. I've no idea how managed not to get stung, but I was watching from the window when he did it. Petrol... lighter... run away screaming like a girl.

We had a wasps nest about 1m away from my bedroom window last summer. I tried to persuade him to burn it, but he said it probably wouldn't be a great idea ;)

Were they emo wasps?

I spent a very destructive afternoon on the patio pounding ants with a rubber mallet once.

Very satisfying.
