Hi guys, im interested to know what an sd program looks like on 4k compared to a 1080p panel. The type of sd im thinking of is the +1 channels on sky that are a bit pixelated.

Cheers

Chris

I mostly watch the HD channels on Virgin Media which seems to be increasing i number all the time but when I am forced into watching SD, I am surprised by how good the picture is. It is possibly a little bit softer than on my Sony W905A 1080P TV but I have to say it isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I think I've gotten more used to it now, but when I changed my 1080p panny plasma for a 4k panny 58ax802B I was quite shocked at how bad standard definition stuff does look.

I don't watch much TV though and when I do it tends to be BBC HD so its not a big problem. I got a 4k TV for PC gaming. There's bugger all else worth watching on one.

Ive got a 55" X8505 and just like the chap JudgeC I pretty much only watch 720p or 1080p content.

I did watch a Sky on Demand episode of QI the other night which only have the SD copy available and I was surprised, I was expecting it to look awful, I reckon it looks about the same as it did on my 1080p LG 42", just bigger.

The bigger a TV the worse its going to look and also different 4K TV's are quoted as upscaling better than others.

I doubt the manufacturers care to much about SD though, if youre buying a big 4K TV then the assumption might be you're looking to watch 4K content when it arrives and also you already have a thing for HD anyway.

Im waffling a bit, just the first two paragraphs are relevant.
