The only reason i ask is that my plan is to buy a 5d3 at the end of the year, BUT after viewing and reading lots of reviews i think the 6D is for me and i can buy it now with a sigma 35mm and 17-40mm F4!

I know the weather proofing is not as good as the 5d3 (annoying for me), i know the AF is not as good (annoying as i have used a 7D!), BUT i know IQ is as good as the 5d3, the low light is as good as the 5d3, it has wifi (which is good for me), its cheaper, it uses SD (good for me), i have the batteries for it (care of 60D which i have only had three days).

Im no pro but after using my dads 7d i have fallen in love with the AF, this is the only thing stopping me from buying the 6D.

What are your thoughts?

many thanks buzz

Hard to say - focus trumps theoretical image quality in a lot of cases.

I'd have a play with the 6D if at all possible before committing.

so many videos and reviews ive seen shows the iq to be as good, only thing letting it down is the AF which bugs me a little.

i really wanna hear from anyone that has use or uses a 6D

Ok so the AF isn't as good as the 5d3 but how good is it? As good as a 600/650/700d? Worse?

Doesn't quite answer my question :P How much better is it? Twice as good? 4 times better? Are there any quantitive methods to measure how good AF is?

Do you only use the centre af point. Do you not need focus points spread out far from the centre. Do you want to focus in low light. How crucial is focus speed.

Perhaps decide what you need or want. Then others can help you evaluate the decision.

i tend to shot low light situations, my gripe is that coz i have used the 7D AF and i know its the same if not better on the 5d3 is can i live with out it on the 6D? hens me asking if anyone have used the 9 point 1 cross type of the 6D?

Got one sitting in front of me :)

Been using it for a reasonable amount of time now, so feel free to ask any questions.

Let me go through what you've addressed:
Weather Proofing - hasn't been an issue for me, but then I haven't gone out if it's horrific weather - none of my casual outings really require me to go out if the weathers bad, and I don't like getting wet, so I tend to avoid all of that :)

AF - AF is an interesting thing. So the centre point is VERY good (in fact I'm pretty sure, low light wise it's better than 5D3 good - 6D is -3EV. 5D3 is -2EV). The outer points, I rarely use to be honest. I mean don't get me wrong, I will use them, and there's nothing actually wrong with them, but on the fly I tend to stick with centre point as it's just preferable for me. That said, before this I haven't had a camera with anything more than a centre point, so haven't yet got used to switching it on the fly, nor have really had the need for more than one point. Some shots can be a pain to set up with the way it chooses its targets when there's more than one point active, but it's hardly a 'bad' AF system.

IQ and Low Light, not much to say. It's great out of camera. I rarely boost above about 3200ISO, but I could happily blow an image up at 3200ISO without too many issues I reckon.

WiFi - Why do you want the WiFi? Honestly, it's a gimmick, and nice for impressing the ladies with. Apart from that the only use I can see for it is Wildlife. Would have been useful the other day if I'd just left it set up by the rabbits I was trying to photograph, and then let them pop out of their hole with no fear of me. I could have taken the photo at distance with camera. But yeah, apart from that, not really that useful. I tend to have it off most of the time.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I'll try and answer.

I've got one but not had much chance to use it yet. From the research I did its as good in image quality as the 5d3 , its as good or better iso performance. The centre av point will perform better in low light ( its got a better AF system than ALL the crop bodies except the 7d). Most reviews say if your not shooting sports the AF won't be an issue some even say they prefer to the stupidly complex AF on the 7d/5d3 (ken Rockwell I think).

Only real answer is to try one out.

Thank you kd that did help a lot, the wifi is handy for the camera tethering. after using a 650d and a 60d i like the flip out screen's and i feel i will get a lot of use out of the tethering.

As for the weather sealing i too will not be out in horrific weather but i do plan on getting some time lapses at some point and im off to finland at the end of the year so weather sealing is a big point for me. I will carry on googling :)

I just watched a video that showed the dynamic range of the 6d is slightly better than the 5d3 which is a nice touch :)

Good thing is i dont shoot sports so the AF is technically a win :)

Wow just watched a couple of reviews of the 6D. Does indeed seem to be incredible IQ at that price. Looks to be almost as good as the 5D. I think the 6D may be applying more NR to its higher ISO shots which is making it look not as noisy but blotchy although there is very little in it.

Reasons why I want the 5D III over 6D
1DX AF System. Best in class - Far better than 7D AF
Larger body
Better build body
100% Viewfinder
Button layout
higher MP count
dual card slots
higher frame rate
viewfinder grid switchables
larger lcd
durable glass lcd screen
higher maximum shutter speed
higher flash sync speed

Reasons why I want the 6D over the 5D Mark III
Built in GPS
Built in Wifi
Price...

Well after countless hours on youtube and google ive decided to go with the 6D, if im not happy with it i can always save again and get the 5d3 but i really think ive made the right choice.

Ive got the Sigma 35mm and Canon 17-40 L on route as well :)
