Checking my online banking today with Abbey and it shows the same payment to a Tesco petrol station of £39.46 coming out yesterday and today, so my account is nearly £40 down.

On contacting their telephone banking (in India of course  ) they've told me that they are investigating multiple instances of duplicate payments coming out of Abbey accounts via visa payments and to check back in the morning.

Anyone with Abbey I'd check your account to just make sure you're ok and secondly does anyone know if I can claim equivalent charges back from the bank comparable to what they would charge me for taking their money?

I can't even get onto the online banking system :(

Just get a blank page when I type in the URL.

And somehow, I doubt you'd be able to claim money back from the bank.

I would assume you can claim back any charges incurred but you will have a hard job getting ny extra from them.

My bank did this last week. I noticed late at night and printed the details then when I went online the next day there was no trace of the duplicate. No harm done I guess but could be a worry for some.

Abbey is possibly the lamest and worst bank in UK for ages now. They also must seriously oversold finance in recent years as last month they cut majority of Cahoot's revolving loans to paid back levels leaving a lot of people unimpressed (imagine you based you holiday on revolving loan and in the middle of summer - zap - no money, they took it all back). Such behavior suggest bank has no actual funds to cover all of its affairs as lenders and try to gasp for air by reaching for "stale money" on accounts. Switch and no matter where you go you'll be happier.

that's odd. I've been with them for 9 years now and never really had any issues with them except on one occasion not long after I opened my account and I complained to the HO and got a £50 credit to my account by way of apology. Natwest on the other hand ... now THEY are the lamest bank in the world!

If you don't like the colour of the card why not pay £5 and have a photo card?

You can have almost any image you want put on there.

Much more fun!

As a follow up to my original post Abbey have refunded the £39 second charge so my account is now correct, I decided to try it on a bit for a compensatory payment and after ten minutes on the phone arguing the toss with a very pleasant Indian lady I got to speak to a team leader who after several more minutes agreed on putting an extra £20 in the account due to their error.

Minor result but a result never the less :D

This was in the newspaper today, you are not the only case, its something to do with the bank holiday and Abbey screwing up. They are aware of the issue and are duely posting refunds.
