Got an i3 Ivybridge in my rig, looking to go to an i5 but assumed ivybridge would be best as I have a z77 mobo. Should I be inclined to go to Haswell or just a straight upgrade to an i5

That would be the best plan. Haswell doesn't give you much over Ivybridge. Hell, i wasn't particularly impressed coming from my old i5 760.

Agreed, owned a 3770k prior to the spec in sig. Not an awful lot between the two. The ib was a lot cooler running too.

Im not impressed with Haswell either and that was coming from a 1st Gen Core i7 920 doing 4.3ghz, my haswell does 4.6ghz but for general everyday use, there's no noticeable performance difference.

My honest opinion was the haswell upgrade was a waste of money.
