Is there any gain to be had with the newer N type ADSL 2+ over the older G type routers when using them wired, I don't use wireless and wondered if there would be much difference ?

Time for a new router :)

in a word, no

in more words, probably not. The N routers tend to have Gigabit switches built in which if you're planning on sharing large files between machines on your network might be handy but if you're just sharing the net then you wont notice any difference.

So it's more of an upgrade for wireless users... and no speed increase for wired, shame..., thanks for your reply.

Well there is a speed increase for wired connection, most G routers have a 100mb/s connection and most N have a 1Gb/s connection on the wired side, but if you're just sharing an internet line then there is no advantage.

I have 2 PC's connected to the router via cables... no wireless setup, only one PC is in use at a time, so back to the question :) would it be better to go for one of the newer N Routers ? would there be a possible increase in speed.

Well technically yes there would in your connection from your PC to the router but your internet connection would stay the same speed.
I'll try and explain it, your current set up between pc and router probably runs at 100mbps and your internet connection probably runs between 2-20mbps. So thats the most data your going to recieve at any time from the internet, so the connection between pc and router has 98- 80 mbps unused. If you went to a N router then your wired connection between pc and router would go to 1000mbps but your internet speed would stay the same!
