Any advice for trying to clear the head of an HP Officejet Pro 8024 printer?

My 4yr old printer's cyan head seems to be causing problems. Any suggestions for ways to clean it before binning the printer and forking out like £160 for another?

I've tried the automated options. I've tried a damp cloth under the head and moving it left and right over it. No improvement :(

ps: 1yr out of warranty to the day...

If the latter it's probably knackered if the auto options don't work.

I've used both in the past. Never had clogging issues with OEM inks but lots of clogging with cheap compatible inks.

When was the last time you printed something successfully on it? If it’s well dried ink, then the wet paper likely won’t do much. Might be worth trying a smidge of isopropyl alcohol and see if that loosens it.

It also may be the case that whatever you use needs more time in contact with the print head to soften the dried on ink (if that’s what the issue is).

Print regularly - Then noticed the strange lines. On close inspection you can see they are in effect pixel high lines of lighter/wrong colour, caused by the cyan head failing to print correctly. They seem to be in similar places on repeat prints. Some area fine, other not.

I tried the damp tissue trick multiple times and nothing changed :(


Ordered a replacement printer now, at least getting a 20% cash back offer from HP. If this one only lasts 4 or so years, I'll be moving away from HP.

Yeh, why the printer head isn't a unit that can be easily replaced when it's such an obvious point of failure who knows :(

EDIT: Actually I do know... ££££££££££££££££
