Hi All,

Me and my brother are having a few problems at work and was wondering if anyone could give us some advice?

Basically i work for a family business, Dad (managing director) & my Gramps (director) own.

There is one person in the factory who has worked here 15+ years who has it in for me (works manager) and my bro, always talking down on us sarcastically always trying to pin stuff on us to get us in trouble!

The other day my dad gave him a telling off (nothing to do with my brother) and the 1st thing he did was go to my brother and take his anger out on him, now my brother has had to go to a disciplinary meeting and could be sacked, this bloke really wants me and my brother gone (we have never done anything bad to him and always gave him a bit of respect??)

Any ideas guys of what we can do either relating to this situation or in other ways ;)?

Honestly guys he is a **** cant keep taking this crap from him

Thanks all :)

Helpful...

Who instigated the disiplinary? If it was "the manager" then your brother will most likely be best off going through it and making a counter claim against him for unfair treatment. That way he can go above the managers head in a professional way rather than playing the "daddy" card.

Good point, he is going for that route. Yeh the last thing we wonna do is play the 'daddy' card! thanks :)

How on earth would your brother get sacked by your Dad becuase of something some random loser says?

You would think that but he is the works manager and has quite a bit of control he also twisted the original story to make it sound even worse.

Cheers for the other comments guys :D

ps. he is really unhygienic shall i make a complaint im sure i could get a few other people around the factory to agree .... this might lower his tone a bit .... or do you think its kinda childish and not worth it? he seriously smells lol

These days, anything goes. If its affecting you and your abillity to do your job then make it known.

Not saying that you deserve it, but surely you expected some backlash from some staff? Even if you're more than capable of doing the job, there will be people who think you're only there because of some nepotism on your father's/grandfather's part.

Just ignore the guy. Keep doing your job. Make sure there are no grounds for criticism. Prove to him that you got the job because you earned it rather than got given it because of family ties.

I'd definitely not start being petty about the guy's personal hygiene... that will cause you issues.

It shouldn't do, not if you approach it in a professional way.

If youre concerned about something that affects you or your job then youre well within your rights to bring it up with someone in a position to do something about it. Ive worked at more than one place where there were BO issues and they were successfully dealt with in a way that didnt create any additional issues.

hmmm it is bad every time he is around it stinks and it lingers lol also his breath and work clothes are not washed and worn daily  gonna have a word with my bro about taking this further as i think it come to the time now that i cant be nice anymore, i have worked here 4years + and my bro 8 years + we have done well so far to ignore his sly comments and get on with the job but i think the time has come now to act!

is there a union? are you in it? is he in it?

there is a union ... a works union who have been in on this and in the disciplinary saying that the smelly bloke is bullying

then you shouldn't worry.

Fighting bullying in the workplace is "in vogue" at the moment with many companies. Let the union fight your battle regarding the disciplinary.

If the guy doesn't ease off, I'm afraid your going to have to be very clever and force him to do something stupid which will lead to his dismissal. Not very nice but it seems you have tried being civil about it. The more people you can influence and get on your side, the dafter this bloke will look and this will reduce the extent of his influence.
