Hi all, those of you read the forum will(or may) have seen my topic in general hardware on what I think is the death of my mobo.

Well I am in the hunt for a replacement.Overclockers only do 1 ddr2 nforce board the Asus striker
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-260-AS

I have got to get delivery before christmas as I dont want to be without a PC over the holidays.

I have read the reviews on the board and wonder if anyone on the forum still uses this board and how they rate it now.

so folks is it any good?
Does it clock well as I have a q6600 cpu?
how well does it handle an OC with all 4 ram slosts filled (8gb tracer ram waiting)?

Thanks for your time.

I started a thread the other day about best board for my Q6600 G0 and was told boards with Nvidia chipset's don't really go well with Quad core intel proccessors.and they are especially bad overclockers on them....Here is the link http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18091412&highlight=q6600 HOpe this helps....James

Hi Jhlow,

I read the thread, but unfortunatly Im limited in my choice as, I have to 2 gfx cards for SLI forcing me to a nforce chipset and due financial limitations I cant really afford to upgrade my gfx cards/ cpu or ram.

I need a straight swap of the mobo, from the XFX780i board that has died (jury still out but not looking good).

OC only stock one board thats why I asked forum users for their opinions on that board.

Thanks for taking the time to reply anyway.

Hiya. Well to answer your question the Striker is a good board but runs very very warm. I had one and it was a good clocker too. I used mine in conjunction with a qx6700 and had it clocked to 3.4ghz stable under prime, however I swapped it ouf for the 780i xfx board and I have to say I much prefer the xfx version. It was much easier to overclock with, it runs cooler and its also way cheaper!! I never had all 4 ram slots populated so I cant help you there unfortunately and the price of a new Striker is very high indeed. I actually sold mine on for £100 and bought my current XFX for only £50 from that famous auction site. It was still sealed so as far as im concerned it was brand new too! Have a look on there. If your dead set on a Striker for your sli config they are good but I would reccomend the xfx board over it and even better than that an EVGA one if you can get hold of one cheap enough.

Hi Chris thanks for the info. Not set on the striker but the only one OCUK does, I might look on the well known auction site l8r, but looking for pre Christmas delivery and my time running out.

1 week before christmas and my PC is as dead as a dodo.

If I didnt have bad luck I would have no luck all.:(

Cheer up mate, my 2009 has been the complete pits man so I doubt you have had as bad a luck of run as me, anyways getting back to the board im sure if you were to get one from somewhere else they could next day courier it to you, it might cost you a few pennies more but a better board possibly and before xmas, its worth thinking about! Let me know what you go for in the end,if I still had my stiker you could have had that buddy!!

Thanks Chris, but I went to order the striker and out of stock, LOL it gets worse.

2009 been a bad year for many, next year has to be better.
Still looking on other sites for a mobo.

Any suggestions of good nforce 780i boards would be appreciated. The auction site doesnt have any cheap.

I have a max budget of £200.

I had that board and could overclock fine on it, make sure you get a striker 2 and flash to latest BIOS, you will get 3.4 - 6 out of a quad which is more than enough...

Hi Chris and Merry Christmas, I am still looking for a mobo m8, so no gaming for me over Christmas :(

Yes mate I am interested in the board, they seem to be out of stock or overpriced atm. How do we sort it?

Im not to sure how we would sort it to be honest, ive just quickly bobbed on now for a look to see what going on. If you can find out how we would go about it drop me a note nad we can take it from there. How much are you willing to pay?
