Hey,

I been a Be user for about a month now after leaving the shambolic company that is Virgin.

At 1st weren't too happy, finally got it going alright but my exchange has an issue with pings as other people with same line attenuation ping half me:

C:\Users\Alistair>ping bbc.co.uk

I'm quite happy considering my NTL 20mb connection was rubbish. It had 768k upload yet it managed to lag any time I uploaded something slow.

My new Be line allows me to download/upload game all at the same time. I would say join Be, but their customer service well, to put it the best way aint much better than Virgin.

Be user here, I have had the odd problem with pings, I actually got booted from a BF2 server once because my ping decided to go through the roof.

Its one of the very few complaints I have about be....its not got to the point where ive actually bothered to look into the issue though if you look on the unnoficial be forum, theres ways and means with dealing with it.

Your ping and attenuation aren't connected - your loop length is negligable compared to the distance between your exchange and whatever you're pinging.

Try sending BE a ticket and ask for interleaving turned off, may leave you with a reduction in speed and in some cases stability however.

Wouldnt exactly use a site like bbc.co.uk to time pings :/ load on that server will vary etc.

Seconded, but Im on Be here and getting 14ms ping from bbc. One thing I would note is that Be seems quite touchy on the quality of your extension cables. When plugged into the BT test socket, I can sync at around 15Mb, but connected to the master socket, I sync at around 10Mb

Its to do with the orange "ring wire" thats part of internal phone lines, it acts as a big antennae and introduces more noise or whatever to the system, plugging into the test socket removes this wire from the equation.
If you have modern phones, you can simply disconnect the orange wire inside the master socket, although thats viewed as a bit of a botch job.

The correct way to overcome the problem is to replace the master socket with a ADSL filtered socket & extensions

The test socket doesn't disconnect the ring wire, and you really don't want to use both a filtered master socket and extensions - wire your extensions to either the filtered (for phones) or unfiltered (for your modem) sides of the master socket.

Phones ring without the ring wire connected because the filter contains a capacitor to power the ring.

yea, check out the BE forums, theres a wealth of reliable information there.

i just got put onto fastpath this after noon, look that up also on the forums, may help your gaming a bit =)

Ref skully below:
I guess its like most things, for some people it works, for others it doesnt sadly, I sync about 1,317up/10,248kbpsdown (current) and have had no disconnections at all, no problems here - a fare improvement on pipex (400/5000-7000) for the same money.

I've had BE for about four weeks now, constant disconnections, poor syncing and almost zero communication from them!

Not impressed at all!

signed up for be the other day after getting fed up of the shambolic BT service. Even if be is really bad and i get a very poor speed, it will still be far better than BT 2 meg, even though BT said i should have had 7, just never bothered their arses upgrading me.

have been reading a bit, and there are a couple of problems, but very few people will go "everything is working fine, ill post about it". people only post problems, and there should be countless more happy people.

I hope, anyway.

get a line attenuation (sp?) of about 40, and im less than a km from the exchange as the crow flies, probably a fair bit in reality. would be extremely happy with 8meg+

Where do i get those phone sockets from?

Edit: Ah yes, the clue is in the photo. Do any high street shops sell these integrated filter sockets?
