Any benefit to AIO for 9800x3d

Right now using NH-D15 G2 and saw temps rise 5C since the Summer. Now with 20c ambient idling at 38C, gamong mid 50's, cinebench 23, maxed at 73C.

I assume these are ok temps for CPU. Would an AIO give me much headroom. I run PBO with -20 Cuve Optimizer and Expo I. No other tweaks.

I suspect I'm ok

What I guessed. When I saw them rise, I repasted CPU. Made no difference. Then I copped it's likely the ambient causing the rise. Thanks.

I have the 9950x3d with the artic freezer 2 420mm aio idles about 30c gaming just under 40c odd.

That seems impossible. I had an EK Nucleus CR360 last year (comparable to AF3) and with a quiet fan curve I saw under 30c idle temps in December. But 30c gaming or 40c under load. I call BS. Even with fans on 100% there is no way an AF2 would stay at 30 in gaming let alone under 40 under load. Any tech review or forum
will show that to be the case

Yes I agree but for a 9800x3d I don't think it's needed or might make a minor difference. Maybe for asthmatics. I am still considering

I have read so many reviews now. Better temps with an AIO seems a given if stressing things. Not so much for general stuff or gaming. After all the 9800x3d is barely putting out 130watts when running Cinebench and my CPU maxes at 73C and system is barely audible. I suppose a better fan curve could give me lower temps but I like quiet which is why I went for an air cooler.

The only AIO I have come across (pre 9800x3d) with a quiet pump was the EK nuckeus CR360 under 70% duty cycle. I tried the AF3 and that had a terrible pump as had any AIO with an Asetek. I read the BeQuiet Light Loop 360 is very quiet but not sure umai like the looks of the pump. This is why I went air cooling.

AIO have coolant loss and pump and fan wear.
Air cooler heat pipes last forever almost forever so only have fan wear.

Top tier air coolers prices start at £29.99

Thermalright Peerless Assassins' (120 & 140) are only a couple degrees warmer than NH-D15 and NH-D15 G2 at same noise levels. Prices are £29.99-39.99 with ARGB & LED readout at £49.99 compared to NH-D15 starting at £89.99 (w/ 1 fan) while 2 fans & colors make put it between £99.99 and £109.99, and NH-D15 G2 models are all £127.99 makes Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 the clear winner in my book.

Other top tier Thermalright coolers are Phantom Spirit 120 are £33.95-44.99 on pre-order, Frost Spirit 140 is very hard to find, as are Frost Vortex 140 (6x 6mm & 1x 8mm), Royal Knight 120 (6x 6mm), Royal Pretor 130 (6x 6mm), Frost Commander 140 (5x 8mm). etc. And of course there's time proven Silver Arrow IB-E Extreme, now Rev. B with 8x 6mm heat pipes.

Cryorig keeps talking about some 10x 6mm heat pipe coolers (first was TE10 & OE10, now Gladius Astral), but none on the market or reviewed.

I just went with the nh-d15 g2 as was building Noctua themed PC. No other reason. Otherwise would have gone Thermalright
Hopefully you got some sponsorship. Would be a good use on their part for high price of product. Granted, they do considerable R&D too, but so does Thermalright and many other competitors.
