i got an email from OCUK with a 10% off code, so was thinking of getting a cheapish c2d cpu and upgrade my board and ram.

Now, is there anything i can get that is a good board that overclocks well and will work with the bloomfield cpu's etc..? one that has DDR3 support would be ideal but DDR3 is still kind of expensive compared to DDR2 :o

then i would need SLi support, for now.

maybe upgrading now would just put me in a rough spot then?

I think the bigger question will be how much do you have to spend or will spend if ya wait. Being totally new architecture and speedy to boot compared to AMD's current digs I would be very shocked if the chips and motherboards were not very costly for a decent period.

I mean really there's some great stuff out now that is more than fast enough to last for a while. Your setup is not exactly new and it seems to hold up well so I see no reason why a 775 setup with quality parts wont last a few years and perform well. One thing I have learned is every time I make a jump and get a setup 6 months later the new greatest thing ever comes out and I used to get bummed like I wasted money and should have waited but in retrospect it all did the job just fine and most of it was in my mind.

Hell im happy atm with a budget chip that overcloks like mad and frankly cost's less then a lot of my Saturday night bar tabs :P
