any body know this bug?

As the subject implies, does any body know what this bug is please

It was in Cornwall last week (on one of the few days that it wasnt pessisting it down) and was getting attacked by some ants

Paederus littoralis. A species of Rove Beetle.

I thought it may have been some stage of earwig myself.

or possibly a queen ant looking for a new nest (as you can see I know nothing about insects, but its head did look ant like and when it got close the ants around were going mad, 100s of them were appearing all over the place)

My other half is phobic about earwigs, so when I said could be an earwig larvea or stage, she went from "oo pretty colours" to "eek run away, has it gone yet"
