I've recently been thinking about maybe becoming a taxi driver. I run my own businesses as it is so I can be pretty flexible with regards to working hours, and the opportunity to do the odd student/Saturday night for some extra cash seems quite appealing.
The application process on the Bristol website is pretty rigorous - various tests (both knowledge and driving) as well as medicals, CRB checks and the like. All in all the fees come to around £400.
But that's all fine, it's the stage after that that I have no idea about. I've 'heard' that you can either use your own car or hire one from a cab firm. If this is the case what's the likely cost of hiring? And how do the firm take there cuts? Other such questions as can you decide when to work or is it also up to the cab firm etc would be greatly appreciated!
PS. Oh and I'm talking about hackney carriages, not private hire
