Any car mechanics on here who can give me a rough estimate?

Hi guys, I was wondering how much labour would cost when fitting a replacement clutch in a VW Polo? (9N, 1.2, 3cyl/6v, 55, 2002)

Parts provided, so no need to worry about parts cost, only labour.

Cheers guys :)

I'd say £150 sounds very low for 4 hours labour considering they're making nothing on the parts. There can be regional variations in pricing but £50/hr +VAT is considered a good price around here.

get a mechanically minded friend and do it yourself. pay your friend with beer or kisses depending on your preference.

Don't do this if you are not mechanically minded yourself.

Worst advice ever, getting someone else involved non-professionally on your car is a recipe for potential trolling.

Alright well thanks guys :)

Reason I was surprised is just because ive never had this kind of work done before, so i've never been quoted for it.

I have a mate who is a mechanic, and Dad is a mechanical engineer, so i'm sure i'll be able to sort something out a fair bit cheaper, but for now the old one can stay in it. It doesn't slip or anything too terrible, its just something that i'll need to think about if I keep the car a fair while.

I believe it still has the original clutch, so with 115K miles on the clock its not doing too badly.

Can't be the only one thinking this was a massively pointless thread.

In what world is this a pointless thread? The clutch will need doing on my car at some point but I can live with it as it is for the moment, and I was wondering how much it would cost to fit a new one in a garage.

But you don't see me making a thread on how much to fit a new engine in my car. It's working fine atm and nothing too terrible but just forward planning.

Just saying thats all :P

Yeah but... Having a new clutch fitted in the car now, would make it nicer to drive, so if it wasn't too much I would have it fitted. (and if I can work something out between me, my mate and my Dad I may still get it fitted)

But at £150 labour (if i'm lucky) and probably more, I wouldn't bother until it is actually needed.

So you might be wondering, you could just try and work something out with your Dad and your mate then anyway, and the answer would be yes I suppose, but I didn't know it would cost so much that I would have to think about working something else out. :p

I just paid £167 for a Clutch, DMF and CSC inc new gear oil fitted to a ford focus 1.8 TDCI, I supplied the parts myself.
