Any Cat Owners ?

No way. Either keep the tree, without glass baubles, and just enjoy the fun of putting it back up every morning or do the right thing. Chuck the tree out.

It really isn't a huge problem to solve. Lose the tree.

first xmas we had ours we came in the front room and his head was sticking out half way up the tree. we just used a spray gun when he went near it, he soon learned if he dont go near it he dont get wet :)

our cat didn't climb the tree last year, our worry is that hes taken to getting to the top of things over the last year - loves sitting at the top of the kitchen cabinets and wardrobe...

The plan at the moment is to wrap up some larger boxes to block him from getting underneath and behind the tree, keep him out during the day when were not around and over night. Its not too much of an issue for him, his cat tree is in the dining room and he has plenty of other places to play...

Suggestions anybody ?

Haha I feel your pain, our cat used to do this on a daily basis when she was a kitten. To make matter worse everytime she climbed into the tree the dog would try and drag her out, cue the tree being pulled over and the decorations strewn all over the floor.

Only so much you can do without resorting to archaic methods! Ours like papping the baubles off and footballing them around the room. It's not great but I can live with it. I suspect you will just need to do the same although if yours is trying to scale the tree you'll need to be on your toes lol. Ours grew out of the trying to climb the tree phase quite quickly...maybe yours will do the same!

Put mothballs all around the base of the tree, even make baubles out of them and hang them around the tree. Cats hate mothballs. We used them on our bottom step of our stairs that they took to using as their scratching place...mothballs stopped them going near it instantly.

the vet told us to spray the bottom of the tree with jiff lemon juice and water as they tend to despise the smell/taste of citrus. No idea if it works or not cause Murray destroyed our tree before we had chance to buy any lemon juice.

That said its quite cute to see just a kitten head poking out the tree :D

We have two cats.

One is coming up to 1.5 years, so basically coming out of kitten phase. If she goes near the tree she gets sprayed with water and a firm "No!" shouted at her. Now she's either very weary of going near the tree or if she does, we shout "No!" and she walks away.

Our 4.5 year old is a different matter. Since getting neutered (used to belong to our neighbour) he hates going outside, so he stays in at night. I came down stairs this morning and had to retrieve 14 Christmas tree balls from behind our sofa's! The other morning came down to find him lying on a strand of tinsel he pulled down.

He's very clever. He won't pull down the Christmas tree balls whilst me and my wife are up and about. He waits for us to go to bed before he has his fun, so its impossible to discipline the swine with water spray.
