that's not champagne

I would imagine 1874 is the formation year of the house rather than the vintage

indeed, it's not champagne as it's from Germany, which as far as i know is not found in the Champagne region of France..

it also says, in german, Founded in 1874 as a Winery, so it is not from 1874 either :p

200 what ?

I am basing £10-20 on it as a generic German wine, it may be something of a better quality but I doubt it

yeah i realise that, pretty sure wouldnt be able to get it out of house for a viewing though unless it was actually worth more than a tenner.

babelfish says that it was Kaiser Wilhelm II emporeror of somewhere favourite tipple.

I seem to remember from somewhere back in the midst of time, that there may be a serial number on German wines which include the bottling / vintage date.

On the other hand, this may be complete BS. However, if it was not laying down, then the cork may have shrunk and the wine would be undrinkable as air may have got into the bottle.

The fact that it says Produce of Germany in English may mean that it was made for export, but I'm sure that no-one is going to turn down an offer of an invite when you open it. :D
