As title really,

I have the following

c2d e4300
2gb ram
8800gts 320mb
480w Psu

Is there anything i can change in this system for as cheap as possible. That would boost performance on say... Age of Conan or something :)

Are they a notable improvement mate? maybe my current card could sell i suppose.

Get yourself an E7200 if you mobo supports it and OC it? Also RAM is cheap is chips nowadays so can get yourself another 2GB for £30 odd?

I have an Asus p5n-e sli motherboard. I think that was the model (im not much of a geek these days)

I think a new cpu and more ram might be an option. My ram is crucial ballistix 5300 or somethin :)

Graphics card maybe but I'd hold off until the next batch of new cards (in the next few weeks) and see what prices do. Definitely add more RAM if you're using Vista x64. Depends what you play. A new 8800GTS 512MB would improve most DX10 titles at higher resolutions.

If you're already OCing the CPU I don't think you'll notice much of a difference from an upgrade.

Eeeek! E4300 @3GHz , 8800 GTS 320, 2Gigs... ageing? Thats exactly my system!

I have been looking at a seperate Raptor (second hand 36GBs are going cheap in the Members Market) for game installs.. more of a help for loading sequences.

XP will run just over 3 gigs of ram - so you might as well up to 4.

However this is just gilding the lilly... running ccleaner and defragging your dard drive will porbably give you the same placebo!

What size screen are you running? Maybe if it is huge a larger mem graphic card is actually worth it.

Only your graphics card is even slightly old. Replacing that with a 8800 GT/GTS 512 will have a large boost compared to upgrading any other part of the system.

Oh right, I kinda forgot how long ive had it, and forgot my spec was in sig lol.

I have a 22 inch monitor, it runs the games i play fine, but I plan on buying Age of Conan, and loads of people are saying its a nightmare to run well.

I might just see how it handles the strain before i go spend money. 4gb of ram might be doable :)

Just looked for some crucial ram the same as what i have. I currently have...

2GB kit (1GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module

for the same again, with a free 1gb usb flash drive its £42.29.

does that seem a good option?

i wouldnt bother upgrading until you have the game.

as mentioned tidy the system up with ccleaner/defrag and see how it runs.

You are probably right to be honest.

Ive been looking at case threads for the first time in about a year, and i remembered how much i enjoy tinkering with my pc. I have the idea of buying something for my pc. but im broke so keeping budget low.

I guess my money might just be best paying bills haha

I tend to buy games first then upgrade to accommodate them. It's a nice feeling when you can finally shift everything to high at your native resolution.
