Any Cisco Experts? Cisco Access Point Problem - Help!!

In a moment of madness, I purchased a Cisco 1142 access point at a really good price - or so I thought - on a well known auction site. The problem came to light when I tried to access it via the GUI, I couldn't. It turns out it's the "lightweight" version and only works when connected to a controller, BUT, it can be returned to autonomous mode by loading the corresponding image which is available on the Cisco support website to Cisco direct customers, Cisco Partner customers, or CCIE's. I match none of these criteria.

So it looks like I'm stuffed, unless any of you good people out there have any ideas? I'd really like to get it setup and working.

Many thanks.

It's relatively simple to do once you have the right Aironet image.

I'd offer to help but all my Cisco APs are 1200 series :(

I'm sure if you look hard enough you'd be able to "find" one though.

Well a support contract for a 1142 AP is about £55 a year, that will give you access to download the IOS images you need.

Must be a new thing them needing a valid contract for the AP's as I don't remember it being that way before.

As for the conversion process that is pretty simple, just get the image you want, rename it and put it on a TFTP server and away you go. Pretty simple instructions are somewhere on Cisco site.

Many thanks guys for your responses. I was able to "find" an image once I was made aware what I should tell the search engine to look for.

Loading the image via a TFTP server on my PC was simple once I disabled Windows Firewall - grrrrr.
