I'm interested to know the call between solicitors that takes place when contracts are exchanged how long does that usually take?

I hope we're exchanging today but I don't know because the solicitor has been on the phone for the last couple of hours! Think I just might explode with the suspense :o

Sometimes they do not need to call each other. Seems like a minor hold up, though could be being caused by the lender if they have a problem making the payment (these thigns do happen if their clearing bank muck the payment up). Barclays have had IT issues for the last 2 days so hopefully they are not the lenders clearing bank.

A lot of solicitors tend to be totally incompetent with conveyancing so there isa small chance something has come up in the land registry they may have overlooked or something along those lines.

Was there any issues during the valuation or any remedial work?

*edit*

Who is the lender?

Grrr well they've been in touch they were trying to exchange today but our buyers solicitors have just found out the buyers deposit has been gifted to her so they need to check with her lenders to make sure they're ok with it.

How annoying!

Thought it would be something like this. Like I said, I have dealt with so many totally inept Solicitors it comes as no surprise. They should have alsed this question at the beginning!

The lender will require in writing from the donator that the gift is non-repayable and they should be ok with it.

You might get lucky today still.

^ I would have thought it was a question the lenders would have asked when applying for the mortgage, "where is your deposit coming from?". Sounds pretty clear to me
