Any decent free flash editors?

My google skills are failing me today, looking for something, preferably free, to create and edit basic flash stuff with if such a thing exists?

if you're just starting, dont bother with Flash, but start using HTML5<canvas> and Javascript. Its the future for interactive apps and games. Its as fast because of the in-browser just-in-time compiler. And adobe are slowly dropping Flash..

Was hoping to edit an existing file, however it looks like the client has decided to go with a static image instead which saves me any grief

Totally inaccurate, only thing thats changed is no new releases of the flash player for mobile.

Its what most industry observers seem to be saying.. not just me.

By the way I've just written a couple of games in HTML5 and it does everything that Flash does, and is an elegant solution. So I wouldnt recommend that anyone start learning Flash right now..

linky? would like to see what is capable with it as I am just refreshing myself with HTML.
