Any decent upgrade over a GTX480 for under 200?

Simple enough.

Have a GTX480, still waiting for cards to come into my general preferred price range (200ish) that are a decent enough jump up in performance.

Get the feeling I'll be waiting for GTX780 to push prices of older gens down a bit.

Looking a bit myself, there's a few 7950's coming in at around the £200 mark. Seems reasonable (I have zero issue with either camps cards)?

I went from a 480 at 850 core to a 580 to a 670, TBH in gaming if I was not looking at the fraps counter I couldn't tell the difference between them, games have not progress much in graphics terms and so even the old 480 can play the latest game at decent settings. I'm now back to my 2500k integrated GFX as PC gaming currently is fairly pap.

Suggest you hold on to the 480 and see what the next gen brings, if any it should bring down prices of the current overpriced cards.

480 is still more than capable.

Only upgrade if you want to stay on the upgrade curve (i.e. selling at a decent price to upgrade again next generation)

Not just trying to validate a purchase here (ok, maybe I am but it's one I still haven't set my mind on) but http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/518?vs=550

Since the GTX480 is more or less neck and neck with a GTX570 (can be checked on the 2011 comparison) used that here as it's not on the 2012 benchmark set.

It seems to be around 1/3 better which IS probably a noticeable difference?
Actually, screw that, at my res (1900x1200) its more like 15%.

Yeah the 7950 will be a decent enough upgrade. To further whet your appetite that comparison is on old drivers so you can add a good further 10-15% on when talking in today's terms :)

Agree with arc@css and Rusty - the 7950 will give a fair improvement and also power/heat/noise to boot.

I'd probably get the His IceQ Boost due to its price. I've got one and went from a 6970 (pretty similar performance to a 480) and the fps boosts are nice and it's a lot cooler and quieter.
