I was playing with google maps in VR last night, it looks pretty awesome, then it dawned on me how cool it'd be if i could play an RTS like this & have the battlefield laid out there at my feet.

Does such a game exist?

Brass Tactics is still the premier title of the genre in VR, but there are other good ones.

Final Assault is a great simplified example, a well polished hybrid rts/tower defence.https://store.steampowered.com/app/793690/Final_Assault/

More a tactical war rts; Leave No One Behind: Ia Drang VR. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1990880/Leave_No_One_Behind_Ia_Drang_VR/

I'm a huge fan of these types of experiences in VR, there's more than a few out there that are more than standard rts battle sims.

I’ve never played it but always thought this looked ace:

I'll double down on recommending Leave No One Behind VR. Playing it the other night after finally getting it working on the Pico, very much reminiscent of gliding around in Google Earth with a milli sim asset set in play. The VR conversion works ok once you figure out the controls, and what to actually do. Game looks great also with being able to ultra everything with FSR 2.0 included.

Battle Group is quite fun, it does the sense of scale well and is super immersive. The game is a bit slow going though, and more of an armada attrition battle simulation. Homeworld in VR has always been one of my number one asks. Big spaceships in VR space are epically awesome, immersion overload of being in VR, with one of the best stories ever told in a video game.

It also works from a game lore perspective if you think how the fleet commander is literally that central command & control deep within the mothership or carrier.
