After my 'Gardener/Fencing' post the other day, I have managed to get some quotes for some of the other work I'm having done to my house. One of these is decorating the house.

Before I go any further, I know I could do it myself, but I'm not very good at decorating, cannot afford the time off work and simply can't be bothered!! lol

Anyway, it's a 4 Bedroom house with;

Downstairs
Hallway, Toilet, Study, Kitchen/Breakfast Room, Utility Room, Dining Room, Lounge, Stairway.

Upstairs
Landing, Bathroom, 2 Double Bedrooms, 1 Single Bedroom, Master Bedroom and En-Suite.

There are quite a few little chips/dents in plasterboard and most of the window sills etc have cracks around which would need filling etc..

Outside
2 bay windows, 2 large windows (4 pane) and 7 small windows (2 pane).

All windows are wood, painted white. Fascia boards etc need painting and gutters cleaned etc.

The quote came back as -

Outside Materials = £65
Outside Labour = £890
Inside Materials = £190
Inside Labour = £3540

Total Cost = £4685

Does this sound about right? It came as a bit of a shock to me.. I was expecting less...

Thanks in advance

my family run a large decorating firm, that sounds about right.

i could maybe get you an OcUK discount, email in trust lol.

My dads a decorator, sounds about right if it is a firm. Might be about £3500-£4000 with a private decorator as they have no overheads

Edit: post after mine is quite right, done it for 6 weeks myself as a summer job and it is hard work.

There is a lot of man hours involved in everything you want doing so id say it looks about right. My m8 is a decorater and i know they charge quite a lot for work but when he explains to me the amount of work needed to go into some jobs i can see why. Your paying for a skill after all ;)

Jesus - all they're doing is filling in the cracks with polyfilla, let it dry, paint over it, then give the gutters a 20 minute cleanout with a hose, trowel and bucket.

It does seem that this is going tobe the cost for a 'proper' decorating firm to do it then :(

Adam_151. It would be cheaper for me to pay the decorating firms than to have time off work to do it and I need my weekends to relax. Also, I want it donw in one go, not spread over months and also want a good job doing..
